MGE, serving residents of Madison, Wisconsin

Madison, Wisconsin is one the most unique places in the United States. As the capital of Wisconsin, Madison’s 250,000 residents call “the City of Four Lakes” home for its progressive culture and numerous outdoor opportunities. Visitors and residents alike can behold the breathtaking architecture of the State Capitol building, sample the city’s diverse cuisine thanks to the influx of students enrolled at The University of Madison-Wisconsin, take in the renowned collection of art at the Chazen Museum of Art, or stroll along the ever-bustling State Street in downtown Madison for great nightlife. Watersports enthusiasts don’t have to go far in Madison to take advantage of the city’s proximity to the water, perfect for rowing or boating on a perfect afternoon. And let’s not forget the city’s abundance of parks and bike trails, that has made Madison top the charts for livability year after year.

Serving 151,000 electrical customers (324,000 individuals) and 158,000 natural gas customers’ (449,000 individuals) energy needs in south-central Wisconsin is Madison Gas and Electric (MGE Energy). Because of Madison’s emphasis on embracing future trends, Madison Gas and Electric regularly releases its sustainability reports to keep the public informed of its clean energy efforts. Some of these include programs and initiatives like Green Power Tomorrow and Energy 2030, which shows how the company is making steps towards renewable sources of energy like wind power and solar.

Wisconsin’s energy mix is fairly varied, with over 9.3% of its production in sustainable sources such as solar generation, hydroelectric power, biomass/biofuels and more. Wisconsin’s’ Point Beach nuclear facility (in Two Creeks, WI) holds the distinction as one of the oldest operating reactors in the United States, and is Wisconsin’s only nuclear power plant, providing about 15% of the state’s net generation (as of 2017 statistics). However, coal and other non-renewables still continue to be the primary sources of energy in Wisconsin, with over 27 locations and 70 power-producing units across spread the state. Industrial sectors, such as commercial products manufacturing and agriculture, account for nearly a third (32%) of the state’s end-use energy consumption.

Joining the Arcadia Power network ensures that when you pay your Madison Gas and Electric bill, MGE is made aware of its customers’ growing desire for renewable energy that’s good for the environment and future generations. Arcadia Power members have their Madison Gas and Electric bills paid automatically and with no additional fees, sending the message to MGE (and other power companies across the United States) that consumers want a brighter, more sustainable future by having their power generated with better sources of energy.
