Majestic trees, spacious lakes, wild rivers, and staggering mountains—Northern Idaho is a sight to behold and offers endless activities for its residents. Whether you’re visiting the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, taking in the history at the Mission of the Sacred Heart, or enjoying the authentic Americana backdrop in towns like Couer d’Alene and Bonners Ferry, Northern Idaho is one of the most beautiful natural environments in the United States.
Serving the energy needs of Northern Idaho is Avista Utilities, providing electric service to more than 600,000 electric and natural gas customers over its service territory that includes 30,000 square miles of eastern Washington, northern Idaho, as well as southern and eastern Oregon. Understanding the link between providing reliable energy and fostering Idaho’s natural beauty, Avista has taken many steps to minimize its impact on the environment. In fact, more than 50% of Avista’s power generation comes from renewable sources, as well as being one of the lowest emitters of carbon dioxide in the nation. Since 1890, Avista has provided renewable energy beginning with the construction of the Monroe Street hydroelectric facility. Additionally, Avista has established a number of energy-saving, future-changing initiatives to preserve natural resources, including its Solar Select program.
