In terms of livability, Connecticut tops the best-of lists each year for the quality of life that the state is quietly known for. With 3.6 million residents, Connecticut’s unique mix of rural cities, coastal hubs, and mid-sized cities offers a wide range of activities for everyone. Connecticut is home to 54 state parks, like Gillette Castle State Park (in Waterford, CT), and a wide range of museums, such as the famous Mystic Seaport Museum, which is filled with centuries-old ships and ancient relics from the area’s maritime past. Connecticut is also one of the most educated states in the United States, with the city of New Haven known as the home of the prestigious Yale University and the University of Connecticut located in Mansfield. Another benefit of Connecticut is its proximity to both the Boston and New York metropolitan areas, without the congestion and population density that bogs down those areas. Connecticut residents get the best of both worlds.
Serving Connecticut’s energy needs is Eversource Power, one New England’s largest energy delivery companies. Its affiliate, Connecticut Electric, serves customers over 4,400 square miles and natural gas customers cover an area of 2,187 square miles. Eversource has made a commitment in to incorporate renewable energy sources into its energy mix, offering incentives for using solar and wind energy. The company also has shown its stewardship of sustainability and the environment.
|Energy source||% Mix|
According to the United States Energy Information Administration, Connecticut is one of the most eco-friendly states in the United States. This is due, in large part, to Connecticut’s diverse energy mix, with almost 5% of its net electricity generation came from renewable energy resources—which 1.2% of that energy coming from the solar efforts of customer-sited facilities (i.e. solar panels). Nuclear power also plays a large part in Connecticut’s energy mix, with nearly 50% of the state’s net electricity generation coming from the 2,088-megawatt Millstone Nuclear Power Plan (in Waterford, CT). And because of the state’s efficiency, Connecticut uses less energy per dollar of GDP generated than all other states except Massachusetts and New York.
