There’s much to see and discover on Arkansas’ Western Mountain Frontier. Home to some of the most scenic parts of the country, tourists flock from around the world to experience a uniquely Arkansas experience. This includes such deep history as the Fort Smith National Historic Site, or undiscovered gems like Arkansas’ hidden wine country—the largest wine and grape juice production happens right here in the perfect climate of Arkansas. Spend a weekend motorcycling many of the winding highways, or experience the endless opportunities for outdoor fun, like fishing, golfing, canoeing, camping, or attending one of the many festivals that happen year-round. That’s why 26 million tourists visit the state per year, spending over $6.7 billion to enjoy the recreational activities Arkansas has to offer.
Serving Western Arkansas’ energy needs is SWEPCO, short for the Southwestern Electric Power Company. As a forward-thinking energy company, SWEPCO has undertaken various projects to ensure a cleaner environment throughout Arkansas, including a $408 million project for the installation of additional environmental controls at the 528-megawatt coal-fueled Flint Creek Power Plant based in Northwest Arkansas. Additionally, SWEPCO has made projections to incorporate more renewable energy into its energy mix over the next 20 years, including:
And because SWEPCO knows that the environment and its energy is inextricably linked, SWEPCO regularly publishes its environmental reports concerning its efforts towards a better standard of living and a clean energy future.
